Would you hire a job-hopper? (Discussion)

Poshmonkey saidThu, 07 Aug 2008 21:50:53 -0000 ( Link )

There are people who change their jobs regularly. The reasons might be different, one might think it could help to gain a lot of different experiences in short periods of time, another one might want to extend his network of people, or feels just bored doing always the same job. If you were an employer would you give a job-hopper a chance?

I would say as long as someone can proof that he/she has a list of various significant achievements in every previous company I would hire a job hopper. But I would make sure that the employee will sign a contract in which he/she would commit to the job for a certain minimum of time, in order to avoid that the person leaves before an important project is completed.

Although job hopping is a red flag, it isn’t a deal breaker. In these situations I carefully investigate the reason for the job hopping with the candidate by asking questions and checking at least 4-5 references in depth.

I might certainly hire a job hopper. Specially since I might be perceived as one. As long as the person has the skillset required to accomplish the goals I have for them then they have just as much chance of my hiring them as anyone else. It is important when evaluating “job-hoppers” to keep in mind that they will likely not stay with you very long after they are bored so keep them challenged if you want to keep them around.

well really I agree but hit the wrong button…silly me
