    Hi Purbasha,

The job of an astrophysicist can vary, depending on his/her interest. They could be working on any of the following (or more) 1. discovering new planets or investigating stars/black holes/galaxies 2. theoretical modeling of stellar phenomena – like coming up with a simulation or a model for the movement of galaxies or say the temperature variation from the surface of a star to it’s core 3. they could also be working with other astrophysicists in different roles in agencies like NASA/ISRO/etc for launching space shuttles/satellites and investigating data (like samples or readings) obtained from misssions

Typically astrophysicists have an MSc degree in Physics with a specialization in their field. They then work on a specific segment of astrophysics during their PhD. It is usually after a PhD that you start working in in astrophysics labs or maybe with an agency like NASA/ISRO/etc.

Are you interested in becoming an astrophysicist? Personally, I think that it’s a very good option and a great service to the nation. You could end up discovering a comet or maybe the first Indian on Mars :)

I will be happy to look for more information and help you out – please let me know!

    All the best!
