I would say it would definitely be better to plan it in a strategic way and to be focused on what you really want to do. This will allow you to achieve your goals quicker. BUT you should always be flexible and open to new opportunities, having thought of a ‘Plan B’ is not a bad idea. Let’s say your job tomorrow doesn’t exist anymore … well, then you should be aware of your transferrable skills so that you know exactly what else you could do.
